A Shared Play Between Cats and Dogs Rooted in Hunting Instincts.

While commonly associated with dogs, many cats also enjoy playing fetch, showcasing their predatory instincts. A recent study found that over 40% of cats engage in fetch, compared to nearly 80% of dogs. Fetching in both species stems from their hunting behaviors, with dogs often bred to retrieve and cats spontaneously picking up the game. Cats that are more active and social are likelier to fetch, and breed differences play a role in both animals' enthusiasm for the game.
