Sailor and Dog Rescued from Sinking Boat During Hurricane Helene
Earl Barcome and his 10-year-old Golden Retriever, Gunn, were rescued by the Coast Guard after their sailboat began sinking in the Gulf of Mexico during Hurricane Helene. Stranded 25 miles west of Sanibel Island , Barcome reassured his loyal companion before calling for help. Despite chest-high water flooding their cabin, both dog and owner remained calm as rescue swimmers arrived. The pair were safely airlifted to a helicopter, leaving their boat behind.

Answers Pet Food has voluntarily withdrawn select beef and chicken dog food lots following an FDA advisory regarding potential Salmonella and Listeria contamination. The company disputes the FDA’s findings, clarifying that only one consumer complaint was filed and that no illnesses in humans or animals have been confirmed. The FDA allegedly did not follow legal protocols in assessing the products but Answers has proceeded with the withdrawal to prioritize safety.
Hawaii Lawmaker Pushes for Felony Charges in Dog Abuse Case.
State Rep. Darius Kila is advocating for stronger charges against the owner of Max, a 12-year-old terrier mix who suffered years of abuse. Max was surrendered to a rescue group after neighbors recorded the owner mistreating him. Despite efforts to save him, Max passed away in August from severe health issues, including old injuries and neglect. Kila is pushing for the owner to face upgraded charges and hopes for justice in Max’s heartbreaking case.

Dog Rescued from Tree After Hurricane Helene.

The dog had been stranded for about five days but was uninjured and later reunited with her family.
