Supreme Court Rulings Shake Up Pet Food Safety.

Two recent Supreme Court rulings could drastically impact pet food safety. One ruling permits state officials to accept financial gifts, raising con cerns about potential conflicts of interest in pet food approvals. On the flip side, a landmark decision overturning a previous legal standard means courts now have more power to enforce strict federal laws, potentially leading to tighter regulations on ingredients from sick or deceased animals. As the landscape of pet food safety evolves, these changes could lead to both significant challenges and crucial improvements for pet owners.

New Delaware Bill Targets Noisy Dog Owners.

Delaware’s new bill could soon make noisy dogs a costly issue. House Bill 124, passed by the state House and Senate, targets excessive barking with fines up to $150. Barking for more than 15 minutes at a time or 30 minutes intermittently qualifies as excessive. The bill transfers enforcement to the Office of Animal Welfare, raising concerns about fairness and practicality. If signed into law, it will take effect in one year, potentially making bark control crucial for dog owners.

AKC's Pushback on CDC Dog Import Rule.

Starting August 1, 2024, the CDC’s stricter dog import rule requires dogs to be at least six months old, have a microchip, and provide specific health documents. While aimed at preventing rabies, the American Kennel Club (AKC) warns it could disrupt cross-border events and breeder activities.
