CDC Relaxes Border Regulations for Dogs.
Starting August 1, the CDC will ease documentation requirements for dogs entering the U.S. from rabies-free or low-risk countries. Initially, new regulations required dogs to be at least six months old, microchipped, and vaccinated. The updated rules remove the rabies vaccination requirement while still mandating that dogs be six months old and microchipped. This change simplifies the process for dogs arriving from rabies-free or low-risk countries.

Study Finds Human Stress Odors Influence Dogs' Emotions
Research from the University of Bristol shows that dogs exposed to the scent of human stress make more 'pessimistic' choices. Dogs smelling stressed humans were slower to approach uncertain food locations, compared to those exposed to relaxed smells. This indicates that stress odors can negatively impact a dog's emotional state and decision-making. The study highlights how human stress can influence dogs' behavior and learning.
Cavers Rescue Dog from Virginia Cave.
Cavers in western Virginia made an incredible rescue after finding a dog 40 to 50 feet down in a cave. Using improvised gear, including a tarp harness and space blankets, they managed to hoist the shivering dog, now named Spar-C, to safety. The rescue took about three hours, with the dog quickly perking up once outside. Now recovering at the Giles County Animal Shelter, Spar-C is expected to fully heal and is getting lots of treats while they search for her owner.

Rabies Could Be Eradicated with Focused Dog Vaccinations.
Rabies could become a disease of the past with a focus on vaccinating dogs, as they are the main source of transmission to humans. New financial aid from Gavi will help more countries access vaccines, but the key to ending rabies lies in effective dog vaccination programs. Successful mass vaccination efforts in the Americas have already significantly reduced human rabies cases. Advocating for titer testing can complement these efforts by ensuring dogs receive only necessary vaccinations, thus avoiding over-vaccination and supporting the global push to eradicate rabies.

Dog’s Barking Leads to Rescue of Missing Utah Woman.
In Emery County, Utah, a woman's dog played a crucial role in her rescue after she went missing in the mountains. The woman, who has dementia, had been lost for over a day when K-9 Kip and his handler joined the search. Despite extreme temperatures and a challenging environment, Kip's tracking skills led rescuers to the woman after they heard her dog barking. The woman was found dehydrated but otherwise in good condition and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
