World's oldest living dog crowned. Bobi, a Rafeiro do Alentejo, has been named the world's oldest living dog . At 30 years and 266 days old Bobi’s owner credits his diet of human food and active lifestyle for his longevity. He is also believed to be the oldest dog ever, taking that title from Bluey, an Australian cattle dog that lived to be 29 years and 5 months.

Mexico’s famed search and rescue teams are going international. After the recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria, help from Mexico is on the way. 16 dogs and their handlers left Mexico City Tuesday to offer their support looking for survivors and bodies. This highly skilled team drew international attention after the 2017 Mexico City earthquake due to its high rate of success. Mexico joins SAR teams from around the world to help save people trapped in the rubble.

Ghost, the dog raised by coyotes. Over the last seven months a white dog, named Ghost by the neighborhood, has been spotted with a pack of coyotes near Nevada City. Recently, the community noticed he was injured so he was finally captured in order to receive medical care. His body is covered in scars, he has a broken toe that must be amputated, and has ear and eye infections. But despite his upbringing, he is friendly and loving. Ghost will be treated and rehabbed and eventually put up for adoption.

Non-processed diets may contribute to gut health. A study suggests that puppies and adolescent dogs fed a diet of fresh food are less likely to experience gastrointestinal issues later in life. Dogs raised on diets of raw meat, organ, bones, human food scraps, and produce had fewer digestive issues compared to dogs that grew up on kibble diets. Even if a fully raw diet is not an option, this study suggests providing your dog with a variety of fresh foods in early life may improve digestion later in life.

Purina food recalled. Nestle Purina has announced a recall on their Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EL Elemental food for potentially high levels of vitamin D. Vitamin D toxicity may present as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and loss of appetite among other symptoms. Customers are urged to immediately stop feeding the food and dispose of it in a way that other animals won’t get it.

Science may know what makes grapes toxic. It’s well known that grapes and raisins can cause toxicity and kidney failure in dogs but scientists have not been able to pinpoint the exact cause. Dogs also get sick in the same way from tamarind and cream of tartar. This has helped narrow down potential acids that occur in all of these foods that may be the cause. The chemical is tartaric acid and at this point, the most likely cause of toxicity.

Owner of dog rescue faces felony. Lisa Marie Cober, owner of Cober’s Canine Rescue in Norton Shores Michigan had been arrested for abandon/cruelty to more than 25 dogs. 78 dogs in total were found in ill health in unsanitary conditions. Many also had distemper. She has been released on bail and if convicted faces up to 7 years in prison.
