EPA banning flea collars. After years of lawsuits and flawed research, the EPA is finally moving forward to ban flea collars containing tetrachlorvinphos (TCVP). TCVP has been banned for use on crops since 1987 but has continued to be used in flea collars despite warnings and repeated adverse reactions from pets and humans that came into contact with them. There are many natural alternatives to chemical pesticides if you are concerned about affecting your dog’s health.
Bus-riding dog passes away. Eclipse, the Seattle dog famous for riding the bus alone, has died at age 10. In 2015 she became an internet sensation when she started taking herself to the dog park on her city bus. She would board in front of her house and watch out the window until the bus stopped at the park. The King Country Metro Twitter account honored her passing and the joy she brought to others. She passed away in her sleep in her home.

Canine cough spreading in Charlotte. Veterinarians are warning pet parents to avoid Charlotte dog parks for the time being. The persistent cough is starting with a virus but eventually turns into bacterial pneumonia. Not every dog is successfully treated so it’s best to avoid areas with lots of dogs like parks and daycares. Seek veterinary care if your dog shows signs of respiratory distress.

Grain-free diets still under fire. Despite the lack of evidence, recent surveys show many pet parents and vets still believe grain-free diets to be related to DCM. The most recent research suggests that it is actually related to high quantities of legumes. The FDA has been widely criticized for publicizing a possible connection before doing thorough research. Regardless, there is still no definitive connection between grain-free diets and DCM.
Record-setting Kelpie sells in Australia. Eve, a 20-month-old Kelpie, set the record in Australia when she sold at auction for $49,000! The previous record was $35,200 and her breeder expected her to sell for around $30,000. With over 50 years of traceable bloodline, her high-quality training at an early age, and a shortage of skilled working dogs, bids for Eve quickly surpassed her breeder's expectations.
