Hero Dog Spotlight: Sgt. Bo

A once-homeless mutt turned Nashville police therapy dog named Sgt. Bo has been named American Humane’s 2025 Hero Dog for the comfort he brought students after the Covenant School shooting. Trained through a second-chance program, Bo quickly became known for his calm presence and uncanny ability to sense who needed support most. Even after an ACL injury led to his retirement, he continues visiting schools weekly, helping anxious or shy kids feel safe. His story is a reminder of how deeply dogs impact our emotional healing and why giving rescue dogs a new purpose truly changes lives.

Florida Woman Charged After Leaving Dogs

In Fort Myers, FL, a woman was arrested after two dogs — Meme, a 1-year-old French Bulldog, and Bubbles, a 6-year-old Pit Bull mix — were found dead in backyard crates while she was on a trip to Miami. Deputies discovered the dogs with empty food and water bowls, and a necropsy confirmed they died from heat stress. The owner, Jamesha Rollins, is now facing multiple charges, including aggravated animal cruelty. Authorities called the case “plain and simple cruelty” and emphasized their commitment to securing justice for the dogs.

Denver Firefighters Crawl 100 Feet to Save Dog Stuck in Culvert

Firefighters in the Denver metro area rescued a dog named Pebbles after she chased a rabbit into an 18-inch culvert and became trapped. South Adams County’s technical rescue team responded around 8:30 p.m., using confined-space gear as one rescuer crawled roughly 100 feet through the narrow pipe to reach her. Culvert entrapments can be dangerous for dogs due to panic, injury risk, and poor air quality, but Pebbles was safely freed and reunited with her family.

Drone With Thermal Imaging Helps Find Missing Dog

A missing dog in Mission Viejo was safely found thanks to a new thermal-imaging drone donated by DAWG. After 24+ hours lost in a remote area, MV Animal Services deployed their FAA-licensed pilot to search from above. The first sweep came up empty, but on the second pass the drone spotted Josie on a remote trail and tracked her for nearly a mile while guiding her owner in real time. MVAS says the rescue highlights how the donated tech is already helping bring families back together.

Tom Brady Reveals New Pup Is a Clone of His Late Dog Lua

Tom Brady shared that his new dog, Junie, is actually a clone of his beloved pit bull mix Lua, who passed away in 2023. Using a blood sample collected before Lua died, biotech company Colossal Biosciences — which Brady invests in — partnered with Viagen Pets to recreate her genetically. The announcement came as Colossal revealed it is acquiring Viagen, the same company behind cloning pets for Barbra Streisand and Paris Hilton. Brady said the technology gave his family “a second chance” with a dog they deeply loved and added that advances in cloning may eventually help grieving pet owners and even endangered species.

North Hollywood Dog Hospitalized After Ingesting Meth

A North Hollywood dog, Atreyu, became violently ill after likely ingesting meth on a morning walk, showing erratic behavior, fever, and a rapid heart rate. Quick veterinary care prevented a seizure during a 12-hour emergency visit costing $2,000. Experts warn that drugs like meth and marijuana are increasingly reported pet toxins and advise owners to monitor pets closely for unusual behavior. Atreyu is now recovering safely.

World’s Most Expensive Dog Sells for $5.7 Million

Cadabomb Okami, a rare “wolfdog” cross between an actual wolf and a Caucasian Shepherd, sold for $5.7 million to Indian dog enthusiast S. Sathish. Born in the U.S., the eight-month-old pup already weighs 165 lbs and stands 30 inches tall. Okami, believed to be the first of his breed, is described as a highly intelligent guardian dog. Sathish, who owns over 150 dog breeds, showcases his rare dogs at events, attracting large crowds and online attention. The dogs live on a seven-acre farm with ample space and dedicated care.

National Pet Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️

Many canine cancers rely on fat for energy, helping tumors grow, resist treatment, and hide from the immune system.

This Feed Real article highlights how nutrition can really make a difference:

Starve the tumor: Limit omega-6 fats and emphasize omega-3-rich foods like oily fish, grass-fed meats, and organ meats.

Support therapy: Targeting fat metabolism can make tumors more vulnerable to chemo, radiation, and immune responses.

Boost overall health: Anti-inflammatory, nutrient-rich diets reduce inflammation and strengthen immune support.
