Florida Dog Mom vs. Gator
In true Florida fashion, a Land O’ Lakes woman fought off a 5-foot gator to save her 5-pound puppy, Dax. The gator clamped onto his collar and dragged them both into a creek, but Danie Wright wasn’t having it—she ripped Dax free, then flipped it, punched it, and fought her way out of its jaws. Dax escaped without a scratch, while Danie left with bandages (and one less sandal). Her warning to other dog owners: put the phone down and watch the water because sometimes the swamp really does bite back.

Viva Raw Issues Recall
Heads up, raw feeders: Viva Raw has recalled select lots of its beef, chicken, puppy, and cat recipes after routine testing found Salmonella and Listeria contamination. The affected products (Lot 21495 and 21975) were shipped nationwide between July 2 and August 21, 2025. No illnesses have yet been reported in pets or people. Pets may show symptoms like vomiting, fever, diarrhea, or loss of appetite, though some can be silent carriers. Viva is offering full refunds and urges customers to dispose of affected food safely and sanitize bowls, storage, and surfaces.
Dog Pack Sparks Fear in Texas Town
Residents in Godley, TX, are on edge as a roaming pack of 30–40 dogs grows bolder, showing up in neighborhoods, near schools, and even on restaurant patios. Locals have reported close calls, with one father rushing his kids to safety as the dogs charged. Many believe the pack is made up of abandoned pets living off scraps in nearby fields. With limited resources, city officials say they’re seeking help from the county and game wardens as the issue lands on the city council’s agenda this week.

Dogs as a Lifeline to Healthcare
A new study on Seattle’s One Health Clinic shows that providing free veterinary care to dogs of youth experiencing homelessness encourages their owners to engage with healthcare too. The clinic offers exams, vaccinations, and treatment for pets while connecting young pet parents with human health services in the same visit. Researchers found that 85% of clients attended follow-up appointments, demonstrating that keeping dogs healthy also motivates people to seek care for themselves. The study highlights how dogs are not only companions but also a bridge to improved health outcomes for vulnerable youth.
Pool Hero Saves Dog from Drowning
In Goiás, Brazil, a pool cleaner became a real-life hero when he spotted a dog, Choquito, at the bottom of a family’s pool. The dog had somehow gotten inside the pool area and struggled to stay afloat for 40 minutes. Acting fast, Vinicius Orlando jumped in and performed CPR, reviving the unconscious pup. The family rushed Choquito to the vet, and the little dog made a full recovery. Sometimes being in the right place at the right time makes all the difference.
Lost Dogs? Scan and Reunite Anytime
A Pittsburgh-area animal rescue is making it easier to reunite lost pets with their owners by installing a 24/7 microchip scanner outside their facility. Paws Across Pittsburgh’s scanner allows anyone to quickly scan a lost dog (or cat) and access the nationwide registry, connecting them to the pet’s family without waiting for a vet or shelter to open. The step-by-step system ensures even first-time users can help a lost pup safely. The rescue hopes to expand this technology to other locations, making lost pets easier to find everywhere.

Repeat-Biter Street Dogs Face Lifetime Sheltering in India
In Uttar Pradesh, India, authorities are cracking down on aggressive street dogs. Dogs that bite a human without provocation are held in shelters for 10 days, but repeat offenders are kept for life. Sterilized dogs that haven’t bitten twice are microchipped and released back to their neighborhoods. Anyone adopting a repeat-biter must commit to caring for the dog for its entire life. The policy aims to reduce dog-bite incidents while ensuring dogs are safely managed rather than abandoned.
