Sniffer Dogs Rediscover “Extinct” Sumatran Rhinos

After years of failed searches using rangers, drones, and camera traps, two conservation dogs, Yagi and Quinn, may have found a lost population of Sumatran rhinos in Way Kambas National Park, Indonesia. In just two days, they located rhino scat that early tests suggest could belong to the critically endangered species. The dogs were trained on scat from captive rhinos and are adept at finding elusive animals in complex landscapes. Experts hope these dogs can help locate more rhinos across southern Sumatra and support vital breeding programs.

Rescue Saves Neglected Dog and Puppies

In Adams County, Pennsylvania, an emaciated dog and her seven puppies were discovered abandoned in a vacant home after an eviction, alongside a 65-year-old woman who had also been left behind. The dog weighed 15–20 pounds underweight and was severely dehydrated, prompting rescue volunteers to intervene immediately and provide care for both her and the puppies. Police are investigating possible animal cruelty charges, while a county agency is assisting the elderly woman. The dog and her puppies are now in the care of a rescue and will eventually be available for adoption.

Latin America: A Growing Market for Dog Food

In Latin America, pets aren’t just animals — they’re family. This humanization, combined with rising pet ownership and urban living, is driving strong demand for premium dog food . Countries like Brazil, Peru, and the Dominican Republic are increasingly seeking high-quality, nutritious options for their dogs. Economic growth and falling inflation mean more owners can invest in their pets’ health, creating major opportunities for US dog food brands.

Drone Helps Rescue Stray Dog Trapped in Pretzel Container

In York County, Pennsylvania, a stray dog later named Dallas was found wandering with her head stuck in a plastic pretzel container, unable to eat, drink, or breathe properly. For days, volunteers and rescue workers struggled to reach her as she hid in fields, until drone pilot Dallas Fuhrman helped locate her in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Once freed, Dallas was rushed to a veterinary emergency center for treatment of dehydration, tick infestation, and stress. Thanks to the combined efforts of drones, volunteers, and the community, Dallas is now safe and beginning her recovery, though she is not yet available for adoption.

Neglected California City Dogs All Find Loving Homes

In California City, more than 50 dogs were rescued from a home where they were malnourished, dehydrated, and suffering from infections. The owner of the dog rescue “Pawfect Companions” was arrested for animal cruelty after authorities seized the dogs from crates, bedrooms, and common areas. Local rescues stepped in to care for the dogs, and all have now been adopted into loving homes. Despite the grim situation, the happy ending shows the impact of swift rescue efforts and community awareness.

Mount Pleasant Considers More Off-Leash Time for Dogs

Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is exploring changes to leash laws that would allow dogs off-leash during early morning and evening hours in certain park areas. Edwards Park, a historic community space, has long seen informal off-leash dog meet-ups, and residents value the camaraderie these gatherings bring. Some neigh bors are concerned that expanded off-leash hours could turn parks into de facto dog parks, but town officials emphasize that the spaces will remain multi-use.
