Fu Zai, China's first corgi police dog, recently lost his year-end bonus for sleeping on duty and urinating in his food bowl, amusing social media followers. Despite his antics, the 18-month-old explosives-detection dog was celebrated for his remarkable contributions in 2024, earning a red flower and gourmet treats for Lunar New Year . The police assured fans Fu Zai was still well-rewarded.
Plane Crash Survivor Puppy Finds a Loving Home
Whiskey, a six-month-old puppy who endured a plane crash in November 2024, has found a new home with Cynthia Ross after undergoing surgery for his broken legs. Ross, who had fostered him during his recovery, knew right away he wanted to adopt him. Over 100 applications were received, but Ross's connection with Whiskey made her the perfect choice. A nonprofit, Seuk’s Army, was also founded to honor the pilot and support animal welfare efforts.

A new study by the University of Sussex found that chemicals from pet flea treatments, like fipronil, are showing up in bird nests, causing increased chick mortality. The study highlights the risks of insecticides, often found in common flea products, not just to pets but to wildlife as well. Couple’s Terminally Ill Dog Witnesses Their Wedding at Vet.
In a heartwarming moment, Randy and Alexandria Eckhart made their terminally ill dog, Bella Rose, their witness at their wedding in an emergency veterinary hospital. Five days before their planned wedding, the couple learned Bella Rose had tumors. Thanks to a Colorado law, they were able to marry without an officiant and chose their beloved pet to sign the certificate with her paw print.
Lost Dog Reunited with Owner After 8 Years.
Damian, a miniature pinscher who went missing in 2017 while on a road trip, was recently reunited with his owner, Paul Guilbeault, after eight long years. Found by a stranger in Oklahoma, Damian’s microchip led to a joyful reunion when Guilbeault drove 14 hours to bring him home. Despite the years apart, Damian’s bond with his owner remained strong, proving that love and perseverance can bring lost pets back.
Miami-Dade K-9 Roxi Dies After Injuries in Fentanyl Pursuit.
Roxi, a Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office K-9, tragically passed away days after sustaining injuries during a police chase on January 30, 2025. While pursuing a fentanyl trafficking suspect, Roxi was struck by a fleeing vehicle, leading to her injuries. Despite efforts to save her, Roxi succumbed to her wounds. Known for her bravery and commitment, Roxi’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Her handler and the entire K-9 unit are grieving the loss of their loyal companion.

Study Finds Dog Owners Are Less Likely to Develop Dementia.
A new study from Japan’s National Institute for Environmental Studies found that older adults who own dogs are 40% less likely to develop dementia compared to non-owners. Researchers believe the regular exercise and social interaction from walking dogs play a key role in reducing risk. The study also found that dog owners were 20% less likely to become frail. Meanwhile, cat ownership showed no significant impact on dementia or frailty, likely due to the lower physical activity involved.
