When a fire ripped through an Apartment complex in Baldwinsville, NY, Rocco, a Pitbull mix, proved he’s more than just a good boy—he’s a hero! Rocco's frantic barking woke his owner and other neighbors just in time for them to escape the flames that engulfed their staircase moments later. While 24 units were damaged, the Baldwinsville community has rallied to support displaced residents. Rocco, however, is soaking up well-deserved praise (and maybe some extra treats)!

The FDA is now urging pet food makers to strengthen safety plans due to the rising threat of H5N1 avian flu, which has recently affected cats that consumed raw or unpasteurized poultry. With preventive measures now a priority, the agency is ensuring pet food manufacturers take necessary precautions to avoid contamination. Although the virus has not been found in dogs in the U.S., it remains a serious risk to cats. The FDA's action, although late, signals a much-needed step in preventing future outbreaks.

A public records request revealed the Oregon Department of Agriculture misled the public about a cat contracting H5N1 from raw pet food. The study highlights how hemangiosarcoma, which often affects older golden retrievers, spreads by hijacking healthy blood vessels, giving researchers new insight into how to combat this aggressive cancer.
