This isn't the first time such a mishap has happened, indicating potential accuracy issues in the industry.

Parasite Risk in California Waters
A deadly parasite called liver fluke, previously found in Texas and the South, has been discovered in the Colorado River near Blythe, California. This marks its first known presence in California. Liver fluke can cause canine schistosomiasis, affecting the liver and intestines of dogs. To keep dogs safe from liver fluke, avoid letting them swim or drink from potentially contaminated water sources, such as rivers or lakes where the parasite may be present.

Study Finds Secondhand Smoke Raises Cancer Risk in Dogs
A recent study published in the Veterinary Journal reveals a link between secondhand smoke and an increased risk of cancer in dogs , particularly bladder cancer. Researchers studied Scottish terriers, known for their high susceptibility to bladder cancer, and found that exposure to cigarette smoke at home made the dogs 6x more likely to develop the disease. To protect canine health, experts recommend quitting smoking, smoking outdoors, and changing clothes before interacting with pets.

Cat Exposes Doggie Daycare Switcheroo.
A family brought home the wrong golden retriever from daycare, only realizing the mix-up thanks to their clever feline companion. Despite the similarities among golden retrievers, the swapped dog went unnoticed until their cats started behaving strangely towards the impostor. The cats' aggressive reaction prompted the family to investigate further, leading them to discover the switcharoo. A trip to the vet confirmed the mix-up by checking the pup's microchip!

Quality Dog Time Boosts Relaxation Brain Waves.
Research from Konkuk University finds that spending time with dogs decreases stress and enhances relaxation brain waves. Experimenting with 30 adults, activities like play and grooming increased alpha and beta brain wave activity, associated with relaxation and concentration. Participants reported reduced fatigue, depression, and stress post-interaction. This study further demonstrates the therapeutic benefits of dog companionship, suggesting tailored interventions for improved well-being.

AAFCO Worries PURR Act Could Compromise Pet Food Safety.
The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) expresses concern over the proposed PURR Act, which aims to shift pet food regulation from state to federal level. This could weaken oversight, allowing pet food companies to evade scrutiny, potentially including unhealthy ingredients that may pose risks to our pets' health. Maintaining stringent regulations is essential to safeguarding pets from harmful additives and ensuring transparency in the pet food industry.
