Tennis pro feeds dogs like athletes. Former professional tennis player Johanna Konta has shared details of her dogs' diets and her life on a hobby farm following her retirement from tennis. After noticing health issues in her dachshund Bono, including poor digestion and bad skin & coat quality, and realizing how important a healthy diet was to her as an athlete, she switched her dogs to a raw feeding diet. She says she immediately saw positive changes in their mood, energy levels, and overall health. She now advocates for a species-appropriate raw diet for dogs.

Dog rescued from mountain top. The Chaffee County Search and Rescue North team rescued a tired 100-pound German shepherd that couldn't continue a fter summiting a Colorado peak with its owner. The team was alerted to the distressed dog and quickly organized a rescue mission. Using coordinates from a cell phone ping, they located the owner and dog on Mount Hope and used a dog-sling backpack to assist in bringing the dog down the mountain. Another team provided litter carry assistance. The owner had to descend without the dog. Once off the mountain, the owner and dog were reunited, and the dog was reported to be doing well. Wrong dog euthanized. A West Virginia family is mourning the accidental euthanasia of their dog, Eli, after he ran away and was brought to the county shelter. The lemon beagle mix was mistakenly euthanized due to a paperwork mix-up, according to the Putnam County Animal Shelter. The family expressed their grief and frustration, questioning how such an error could occur and demanding better accountability from the shelter. The Putnam County Commission has initiated an internal investigation and promised appropriate action to prevent similar incidents in the future. The devastated family described Eli as a beloved companion who had been with them since he was eight months old.

Drunk man bites K9. A Delaware man, Jamal Wing, reported ly bit a police dog multiple times while attempting to evade arrest. The incident occurred after Wing was pulled over by State Police for speeding. He allegedly exited the vehicle without instruction and refused to comply with the troopers' commands. When the police deployed their K9 to apprehend Wing, he retaliated by biting the dog. Wing was eventually subdued, but not before causing injuries to himself and the officers involved. He was found to be intoxicated and was charged with various offenses, including assaulting the K9 and its handlers, driving under the influence, and resisting arrest. Wing is currently in custody on a cash bond.

Sheriffs sued over K9's death. A veterinarian has filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, alleging a cover-up in the death of a police dog named Spike. The lawsuit claims that the department fabricated a memo attributing Spike's death to causes other than being trapped in a hot patrol car for hours. Spike, a 6-year-old black Labrador, was left in the car with the windows up, resulting in his death. The veterinarian, Yolanda Cassidy, asserts that her reputation was damaged by the false memo that cited her and misrepresented the cause of Spike's death. The lawsuit also alleges that no investigation has been conducted within the sheriff's department, and no disciplinary action has been taken against Spike's handler.

Dog daycare under investigation. An employee at a dog daycare and boarding facility in Anaheim, Michelle Navarrete, has been arrested on suspicion of felony animal abuse. The allegations involve acts of abuse against dogs under the care of the facility, Dogtopia. Dogtopia expressed devastation over the events and stated their zero-tolerance policy for animal mistreatment. The company is cooperating with law enforcement, and the dogs involved are reported to be doing well. The police are investigating to determine if other dogs may have been affected or injured.

New guidelines aim to prevent rabies. The CDC is proposing updates to dog importation guidelines for the first time since 1956. The changes aim to prevent the reintroduction of dog rabies into the United States and improve the verification of imported dogs meeting entry requirements. The proposed updates include additional safeguards such as documentation for dogs from low-risk countries, quarantine and vaccination requirements for returning dogs from high-risk countries, and stricter verification for vaccinated dogs imported from high-risk countries. The CDC's proposal is open for public comment until September 8.
