Ozzy the Mastiff Sets World Record With a 7.8-Inch Tongue!
Ozzy, a 4-year-old French Mastiff–Bullmastiff mix from Oklahoma, just snagged the Guinness World Record for the longest tongue on a living dog — an impressive 7.83 inches. His family learned about the record during a routine nail trim when vets finally measured the tongue that’s always hung out of his mouth. Despite its size, Ozzy rarely uses it for licking and prefers nose rubs over slobbery kisses! His family says they’re “super-duper” excited about his new title — and Ozzy is happily soaking up the attention
40 Dogs Saved From Unsafe La Mesa Apartment
Forty small dogs and puppies were rescued after being found abandoned in a tiny 500-sq-ft apartment filled with feces, old food, and no real water source. Many were terrified, dehydrated, and had paws impacted with waste, suggesting they’d likely never been outside those four walls. Humane Society officers spent hours vaccinating, deworming, and scanning each dog before giving them space to decompress. Despite the horrible conditions, every single dog survived and is now safe. The Humane Society is caring for nearly 800 dogs total and is asking the community to help by adopting, fostering, or donating.

Dogs Now Outnumber Kids in One-Third of UK Neighborhoods
New data shows dogs are officially taking over—literally—with 34% of UK postcode areas now home to more dogs than children. Young couples are choosing pups as their “starter family,” often treating them like kids with birthday parties, outfits, and social media spotlights. The rise of “dinkwads” (dual income, no kids, with a dog) has fueled a boom in breeds with baby-like faces, like Frenchies, pugs, and bulldogs.
Gaza Shelter Shares Scarce Food with Dogs Amid War
In war-torn Gaza, the Sulala Animal Rescue shelter continues caring for dogs despite bombs, shortages, and scarce medical supplies. Shelter founder Saeed Al-Aar and his team share whatever food they have—including rice, pasta, and tuna—to feed roughly 70 dogs and 50 cats, many injured or malnourished. Veterinarians often improvise with human medicines when veterinary supplies run out. The team’s dedication provides a lifeline for animals abandoned or left starving during the conflict. Even with a fragile ceasefire, the shelter faces constant danger but remains committed to saving lives.
Meet AKC’s Newest Pups!
Three new breeds are joining the AKC in 2026: the Russian Tsvetnaya Bolonka, the Basset Fauve de Bretagne, and the Teddy Roosevelt Terrier. Each breed went through years of careful breeding, documentation, and club organization before earning full recognition, including meeting pedigree and population requirements, establishing breed clubs, and competing in the AKC Foundation Stock Service. The Bolonka is a small, curly-coated Russian lapdog; the Fauve de Bretagne is a French scent hound with hunting roots; and the Teddy Roosevelt Terrier is a spirited American terrier bred for vermin control. With recognition, all three breeds can now compete in AKC shows and companion events, while sharing their unique personalities with new fans!
Puppy Survives Stabbing in NYC
Hazel, a 1-year-old Bernedoodle, was stabbed while walking with her family in Union Square, NYC. Despite the terrifying attack, she underwent emergency surgery and is now on the road to recovery, expected to heal over the next few months. Her owners rushed her to BluePearl Pet Hospital, where neighbors helped stabilize her after the attack. Hazel’s story highlights both the danger pets can face in public and the incredible care and resilience of our canine companions. Her family hopes for justice and is thankful for her survival and ongoing recovery.
Pup Survives 50-Foot Fall!
Zoe, a small dog in Ventura County, took a terrifying 50-foot plunge into a ravine—yet came out mostly unscathed! Simi Valley firefighters bravely descended to rescue her, carrying her safely back to her anxious owners. Luckily, Zoe didn’t suffer serious injuries and is back home, proving once again that dogs are surprisingly resilient (and that heroes come in both human and canine forms!).
